Potty Training: Part One

June 18, 2015

So, we've been potty training Shiloh for about 2 weeks now. It has it's ups and downs, and "oops, I slipped on pee" moments. Also, it's fucking hard! Yeah, I cursed! I thought when I stopped breastfeeding it was a nightmare, well this is close to it. Shiloh knows when to tell me he has to "peepee" or "poopoo," but he still manages to pee and poop on the floor right after using the bathroom!

He successfully peed in the toilet once, and has successfully learned to tell me when he has to go. Now, it's really showing him he must use the toilet instead of the floor! He thinks it's funny to pee on the floor and then walk on it. Why is he peeing on the floor so much? Well, cause I'm potty training in the way I know how, leaving my son running around the apartment in his birthday suit. It's not traditional for some, but it worked on my nephew (Michael), and I'm hoping it works for Shiloh. Trial and error is what parenting is about, right?

We had a potty chair, but it wasn't working for us, because he kept thinking it was a chair to play with. So, we decided to buy the Munchkin Arm & Hammer potty seat. It can be easily placed on your home toilet, and your toddler can easily just be placed or climb on if you have a step stool. I love it cause it's easy for him to learn exactly where he has to go, instead of cleaning out a separate tiny toilet seat. It has has an odor eliminator on the back, so it always smells fresh and clean. It also has handles, which I love! He can easily hold on without me having to hold him on it or be scared he can slip off.

I don't have any anecdotes on how to perfect him going in the toilet yet, but hopefully, next week I will have a better response from Shiloh and his potty chronicles.
